Lillian’s Student Success Story

Lillian

Services used: Learning Difficulties, college applications, test prep

The results: High ACT score; acceptance to several universities

Lillian*, who has struggled with dyslexia for her entire academic life, came to us for help during high school. Our tutor guided her through the entire college application process, from ACT test prep to college essays, all while utilizing valuable tools to reduce the challenges she faced from her dyslexia.

Here’s how we worked with Lillian to overcome these obstacles:

A diagnostic test made it clear that the English and Reading sections of the ACT were the most challenging for Lillian. Lillian’s tutor taught her strategies specifically designed to utilize her auditory and kinesthetic learning abilities and strengthen her visual learning skills in order to assist her with overcoming the difficulties of her dyslexia during a timed assessment. These strategies were modified as obstacles were overcome and as new challenges arose.

After completing many practice tests, Lillian scored a 28 on the English section and a 32 on the Reading.  Her next challenge was to learn writing strategies in order to complete her college essays.  Lillian’s tutor helped her to plan, compose, and revise colorful responses to nearly twenty prompts, all while utilizing valuable tools reduce the challenges of her dyslexia.

Since then, she has been accepted to the University of Denver, the University of Missouri, and Rollins College in Florida. Lillian has decided to enroll at the University of Arizona because of its reputable Alternative Learning program for students with Learning Difficulties.

Here’s what Lillian’s mom had to say about working with us:

“WorldWise Tutoring has been instrumental in my daughter’s academic success. Diagnosed with Dyslexia in 3rd grade, my daughter has always struggled in school, which has brought down her confidence. Her tutor, however, inspired in her a drive to overcome these challenges. My daughter exceeded her own expectations, earning high scores on the English and Reading sections of the ACT and getting accepted to her top choice universities. She looks forward to starting college in the Fall with the tools her tutor taught her and a greater confidence in her abilities.” ~ Brenda
