What is a Learning Pod?
WorldWise Tutoring is defining a Learning Pod as a group of students from 2+ different families meeting in-person at a designated location. Learning Pods allow our instructors to focus on student centered curriculum and to provide a social environment where kids can collaborate and engage with other students.
Do you require a semester commitment?
We do not require a semester commitment. However, we do have a 24 hour cancellation policy, no matter the reason. Cancellations or rescheduling with less than 24 hours notice will incur the full cost of the session. For Learning Pods, in order to keep your child’s “seat” in the Pod during periods of more advanced notice, you will be charged twenty-five percent the hourly rate for the scheduled in-person or online sessions that your child does not attend – otherwise it will be offered to another student.
What days and times will the Learning Pods be held?
You decide the schedule of the Learning Pods. Maybe it is just once a week for 2 hours, or maybe it is 5 days a week for 6 hours each day. It is totally up to you!
What does a typical daily Learning Pod schedule look like?
The instructor will design the Learning Pod’s daily schedule based on the students’ grade levels, their required school meetings and assignments, and any enrichment curriculum the parents request. As an example, a typical day with a Learning Pod of 1st and 2nd graders may include:
- 9am: Students arrive and have their temperature taken. Parents complete daily wellness form.
- 9-9:45am: Group lesson on Science or Art
- 9:45-10:30: The 1st graders participate in their school’s eLearning. 2nd graders participate in the Writing & Math Centers
- 10:30-11am: Group Free Play & Snack
- 11-11:30am: Group lesson on History or Civics
- 11:30-12:15am: The 2nd graders participate in their school’s eLearning. 1st graders participate in the Writing & Math Centers
- 12:15-12:45pm: Lunch
- 12:45-1:30pm: Outside or Sensory Play as a group
- 1:30-2pm: Group lesson with Reading
- 2pm: Parents arrive to pick up their children
How many students will there be in each Learning Pod?
WorldWise Tutoring is hoping to have a maximum of 8 students in each Learning Pod in order to maintain a high level of safety for all people involved. We remind clients that valuable social interaction is more about quality than quantity.
Who are the instructors?
With 50+ instructors, their qualifications and experience vary – though they are all very highly qualified and experienced! Once we identify your specific needs, we will send you the bios of 2-3 instructors to choose from.
What curriculum do the instructors use?
The instructors will use whatever curriculum you prefer. This can be the school provided eLearning curriculum, homeschooling curriculum that you provide, or curriculum that the instructor develops per your suggestions of topics.
Are we required to withdraw our children from the public school system?
No, we are not asking you to withdraw your children from school. If you choose to withdraw them and homeschool them instead, please notify us as that changes our instruction.
What COVID-19 safety precautions will be put in place?
For in-person instruction provided to just one family, the client and instructor will complete a General COVID Waiver and follow these specific precautions.
For in-person instruction provided to 2+ families in a Learning Pod, the clients and instructors will complete a General COVID Waiver, Daily COVID Waivers, and follow these specific precautions.
Are there any discounts available?
Because in-person sessions require the purchase of additional supplies as well as an added risk, they are more expensive. To save money overall, you can have the lessons online instead of in-person. To save money on Learning Pods, you can get a discount of $2/hr/student if the families provide the necessary materials for the entire duration of the Pod, including: contact-less forehead thermometer, hand soap, hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, disinfectant spray, paper towels, disposable face masks, and a whiteboard with markers.
If we hold the Learning Pod in our home, is the price reduced?
The hourly rates above are just to pay for the instructor, regardless of the location. WorldWise Tutoring has several venues that we can suggest for you to rent out at an additional cost. However, holding the Learning Pod in your own home, even for one day of the week, would save you the money you’d need to spend to rent space at one of those venues.
May I speak to one of the parents that are using your services?
Due to the confidentiality of working with children, we cannot release the names or contact information of any of our clients. However, you can see reviews of WorldWise Tutoring’s services on Yelp, Facebook, and LinkedIn (Lindsey Wander’s page and WorldWise Tutoring’s page)
